Result on roll-to-roll coater
One major challenge for a roll-to-roll coater is the accurate web handling and control. It requires constant monitoring and adjustment of the film tension and speed due to the winding and unwinding process of the rolls. A concept 3D design of the roll-to-roll mechanism for a roll-to-roll coater is designed by evaluation of different concepts. This 3D design is translated into a test-setup, which will be manufactured to validate the working principle of the 3D design and to get a further understanding of the difficulties regarding the winding and unwinding of the film with constant web tension and speed. The setup consists of a frame where each component of the roll-to-roll mechanism can be adjusted in position, which offers high flexibility during testing. Suitable components, such as the motors and the encoder and force measure rolls, are selected and designed to ensure accurate web handling and control. The next focus points are purchase of the materials and production and assembly of the setup, before tests can be performed to gain insights in accurately winding and unwinding of the film.
